Established in May 2023 in Kyiv, the Intermarium Institute was founded by Ukrainian scholars, experts and public figures. The Intermarium Institute is a non-governmental analytical and informational-educational centre operating under its Statute and officially registered with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
Analytical Activities
The Institute's analytical department, comprising Ukrainian scholars and domain experts, focuses on:
- researching the concept of the Intermarium — its genesis, historical development, present condition and prospects for future implementation;
- analyzing political, social, economic and cultural trends and processes in Ukraine and worldwide, with emphasis on the Baltic–Black Sea, Balkan, Caucasus and Caspian regions;
- modelling strategies for Ukraine’s post-war recovery;
- developing concepts for a new architecture of European collective security;
- studying current processes in Russia and forecasting scenarios of its future evolution.
Informational and Educational Activities
The Institute implements a range of educational and outreach initiatives, including:
- organizing and delivering lectures, seminars, trainings and courses in history, political science, geopolitics, economics and related fields;
- preparing educational programs, collective monographs and research articles;
- producing analytical and educational audio-visual content;
- hosting conferences, roundtables and other scholarly events.
Public Engagement
The Institute promotes public debate and the development of an active civil society by:
- organizing discussion clubs;
- advocating the idea of the Intermarium on principles of Ukrainian centrism via alliances, interstate associations and enhanced-partnership zones spanning Northern, Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe, the South Caucasus, Turkey and the United Kingdom;
- nurturing the next generation of political and civic leaders at local and national levels.

Principles of Cooperation and Partnership
The Intermarium Institute is open to cooperation with individuals and legal entities from Ukraine and other countries. We strive for open communication, constructive dialogue and joint implementation of projects in science, analytics, education and public activity.
The Institute supports a plurality of opinions in discussing socially important issues but gives priority to professional, expert-based positions. We categorically oppose the spread of ideas or concepts that contradict the principles of state sovereignty and national security of Ukraine.
The Institute opposes political censorship, except when it is applied by authorized state bodies within the framework of applicable law to protect Ukraine’s national sovereignty, territorial integrity and security.
The Institute does not cooperate with individuals or entities who are citizens of, or originate from, the Russian Federation and at the same time have direct or indirect ties to Russian authorities, support or propagate ideas of Russian imperialism, or justify aggression against Ukraine or other states.
Additionally, the Institute does not engage with state structures, organizations or individuals associated with the Republic of Belarus, the Islamic Republic of Iran, or the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
Individuals or legal entities who, before, during or after cooperation with the Institute, have engaged in actions that harmed the Institute’s reputation or its representatives, demonstrated political bias or acted contrary to the Institute’s principles, are entered into a closed register of unreliable partners. Further cooperation with them is precluded.
